Auditions

How do I join?

Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester.

The process is simple:

  1. Sing ascending and descending scale warm-ups.
  2. Do some pitch-matching exercises.
    1. We will play you 3-5 notes on the piano and ask you to sing them back to us.
  3. Sing a short solo (≈90 s) of any song of your choice.
    1. Your solo should include a verse and a chorus.
    2. Your solo does not have to be a South Asian song.
  4. Optional: Do a short (≈60 s) beatbox solo.
    1. You absolutely do not have to do a beatbox solo if you don't know how to beatbox, don't worry.

If you are called back, you will receive an email with more information on the callback process and date. During callbacks, we will sing some more together and get a chance to bond as a group :)

Can I audition?

Of course! We encourage anyone and everyone to audition.

You do NOT have to be from South Asia, speak a South Asian language, read music, or have formal singing experience. We want to see your special talent. And if you have special skills like beatboxing and arranging, we'd love to know!

What's the time committment like?

We rehearse twice a week for 2 hours each (total of 4 hrs/wk). Rehearsal attendance is required. We will schedule rehearsals at a time that works for everyone once we have all our new barbabies!

We're a family, so we love to bond outside of rehearsal too. Throughout the year, we host several social events, and in 2025, we even went on an overnight retreat!

Why should I join?

Quite simply, this is the most fun a cappella family you'll ever have on this campus.

You get to meet friends that will stay with you even after you graduate, you get to sing music you love, and we're constantly exploring new opportunities to travel together and perform!
